How does the Pool work?

This website is a hub of evidence-based resources selected for their general quality, relevance and user-friendliness, based on identified thematic and pedagogical gaps and opportunities.

The contents available on our Pool have diverse verified sources:
– produced, co-created or commissioned by SALTO Participation & Information;
– submitted to us directly by the authors; recommended by partners or researchers;
– identified through desk research, in events, and others.

Why does it exist?

  • fostering the involvement of young people in democratic decision-making, civic and social life through volunteering or taking up a role in youth organisations;
  • developing expertise on evolving trends in democratic participation, including through digital means;
  • developing expertise on young people’s skills that enhance and underpin their effective participation, including media literacy, sense of initiative and communication;
  • providing guidance to and support for all National Agencies (NAs) on state-of-the-art strategies for reaching out to a higher number of people, increasing the quality and impact of information activities as well as their inclusiveness and the sustainability and transferability of project results.

Who is behinf it?

The Pool is powered by the team of SALTO Participation & Information Resource Centre (SALTO PI).

We are of one eleven SALTOs, dedicated Resource Centres mandated and funded by the European Commission to support and enhance the quality of Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps. We are hosted by the Education and Youth Board of Estonia (HARNO).

Our mission is to inform, support, and inspire the promotion of meaningful democratic participation – one of the four horizontal priorities – through the Programmes and beyond, across all sectors of formal and non-formal education. Join us!

Here are the members of our team who work to make sure the Participation Resource Pool never runs dry!

To ensure the Participation Resource Pool remains updated, evidence-based and friendly to all actors of Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps, we involve different types of expertise in it, including from researchers, practitioners, National Agencies across all sectors.

The Participation Resource Pool is financed by the European Commission and the host organisation of SALTO PI, the National Agency of Erasmus + and European Solidarity Corps in Estonia.

In its prior versions, the Pool has offered dedicated content pages on Youth Participation, Media Information Literacy, Communication and Digital Transformation, that were created with experts and practitioners (including but not limited to) the SALTO Youth Participation Think Tank and the Digital Transformation Advisory Board whose fundamental contributions we are grateful for.

How was the PRP created?

The Participation Resource Pool was founded by SALTO PI in 2019 for and with diverse actors from the Youth sector and the enthusiasm and financial support of National Agencies (particularly the partners of New Power in Youth SNAC) and the European Commission.

Over the years, we counted on the expertise and experiences of many authors including former team members, and advisers, ambassadors and other consultative groups (see contributors section).

In 2023, SALTO PI’s mandate expanded to cover both Youth and Education & Training fields, which reflected in new content and structural changes to include also School Education, Higher Education, Vocational Education and Training and Adult Education in Participation Pool.
